OK, you have looked at all the info and figures and you’ve decided to move to one of our services, but what happens to your current numbers you may ask?

No problem. Simply put – all your current numbers can come with you.

Number portability (both single numbers and number ranges) has been in place in Australia for over a decade making moving to another provider simple and hassle-free.

LNP Porting

Local Number Portability (LNP), also known as number portability and number porting, enables end users to keep their telephone number (whether single number or number range) when switching from one telecommunications service provider to another.

Prior to the introduction of LNP, changing service providers meant having to get a new telephone number. Number porting changed all that, making it possible for consumers to retain the same telephone number.

Can I Port My Number?

Most numbers can be ported if they are owned by you. If we are not sure if we can port a service number, we will do a service qualification test to establish the status of the number or any issues that could get in the way of a successful port.

LNP Porting Time

Typically, a the LNP port process will take from a couple of days for a single number to about a month for a number range.

There are charges for LNP number porting both porting in and porting out. You will need to consult with your current provider regarding porting out charges and fees.

Things to note:

  • Make sure the service number stays active with your previous provider
  • Make sure there is no barring on the service number
  • Cancel any secondary services attached to the porting number such as Line Hunt, VoiceMail etc.
  • Make sure there are no ‘other core services’ dependant on this line such as ADSL, NBN, Fax, Security, etc.

Choose Numbers to Keep

Decide what number you wish to keep. Start with all your business Prime Numbers and any other number that is of value. You can also keep your fax numbers and port them to an eFax service.

Prepare Numbers for Porting

There are many factors that need to be considered and actioned prior to the port commencement date. Voice Connect will guide you through the entire process, identifying everything you need to know and do.

Decide on Porting Date

The third step is to decide what date and time to port your numbers to your new service. If you need to, you can port your numbers after business hours or the weekend. Voice Connect will arrange with the carriers to get this done
