NBN-EE (nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet)

What is NBN-EE (nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet)?

Business nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet operates over a full fibre-optic infrastructure, including a dedicated fibre link that connects the premises directly to the Fibre Access Node (FAN). This design is intended to offer a top-tier solution that caters to the needs of businesses, with the goal of maximizing performance and minimizing downtime.

It offers speeds approaching 1Gbps, and the fibre connection is exclusively yours, ensuring that high traffic periods won’t affect your productivity. It’s perfectly suited for enterprises that require:

  • Collaboration platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams

  • IP Voice services and HD video conferencing
  • Real-time cloud applications and services
  • Uploading and downloading of substantial files
  • Cloud-based backup and storage solutions

The adaptable design of the service allows for customization to fit your business needs perfectly, enabling you to allocate the entire bandwidth to internet usage or distribute it across up to four services, including internet, data (P2P, VPN), voice (SIP Trunking, ISDN) or cloud services (VDC, AWS Connect).

Our NBN-EE (nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet) service is a superior, enterprise-grade solution, boasting an average contention rate under 18%. You also have an option to upgrade to a contention rate of 1:1 if you require it.

This ensures that your connection won’t be bogged down by the congestion typically seen with budget carriers that provide unlimited downloads.

NBN-EE is specifically built for multi-site and data-hungry businesses, with symmetrical speeds (same speeds for download and upload) up to nearly 10/10 Gigabit. This allows you to run your business at its very best, using technology like cloud storage, large file transfers, voice, video conferencing and more.

The result is enhanced speeds and a more reliable, steady connection tailored for your business needs.

The guarantee of speeds with nbn Enterprise Ethernet depends on the selected Class of Service (CoS).

There are three CoS options, each catering to different needs.

1/ Low CoS (offers 100% EIR)

Meaning speeds are not guaranteed and operate on a best effort basis, suitable for activities like web browsing and email.

It’s good to note that this service still provides you with a very low business contention ratio.

This service is perfect for higher priority applications including voice, video and hosted cloud applications. It is also ideal when upload speed is important to you.

2/ Medium CoS (provides a 1 CIR / 3 EIR ratio)

Guarantees 25% of the total bandwidth, with the rest being best effort and not guaranteed, ideal for uses such as interactive video and database synchronization.

It’s important to note that speeds for Low & Medium CoS can be influenced by various factors, including network congestion, user equipment, the remote party’s system, and fibre transmission overheads.

3/ The High CoS (ensures 100% CIR)

Provides guaranteed speeds up to the network boundary point, perfect for VOIP/Hosted Voice and interactive video, and real time cloud applications.

This service is unaffected by network utilization and congestion due to a 1:1 Contention Ratio.

Ideal service for critical business applications including hosted cloud services, voice, video conferencing and CRM databases that require a guaranteed bandwidth.

Please note: For High CoS, network congestion and utilization do not impact the guaranteed speeds to the Network Termination Device (NTD), providing a reliable service for mission critical applications.

Acronym & Jargon Meanings:

Contention Ratio: Simply put, contention ratio is how many people are sharing the same internet cable as you. The more people who are connected the slower your broadband might be. With a contention ratio of 1:1 it means you are NOT sharing the cable with anyone and therefore your speed is guaranteed at all times.

CIR: Committed Information Rate (I.e., how much of the bandwidth is guaranteed).

EIR: Exchange Information Rate (I.e., how much of the bandwidth is provided as best effort and is not guaranteed).

nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet plans offer a 12hr fault fix PNS (Priority Network Support) / SLA as standard. Optional enhanced PNS / SLAs (eSLA) of 8 and 4hrs fault fix is available in most locations.
Priority Network Support (PNS) enhances our NBN-EE offerings, providing a specialized onboarding process and improved fault restoration times for all our nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet plans.

Designed for businesses that rely heavily on their data and need superior support, PNS guarantees a 12-hour fault restoration timeframe.

For those requiring even faster service, we offer the option to reduce this time to 8 or 6 hours for an optional additional fee.

The following is included in all our NBN-EE services.

  • An enterprise-grade nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet connection
  • Unlimited free data with no shaping
  • A free IP address
  • 99.95 % uptime service availability commitment
  • Premium-12 Service Assurance target
  • Optional Premium & Gold SLAs (better Service Assurance target commitments for those who really need it)
When a nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet service is provisioned at your site, a Network Terminating Device (NTD) is installed in your premises, serving as the point of handoff at the nbn co NTD.

This device functions as the gateway to Fibre Internet and is placed in a secure spot, typically in the communications room’s rack.

nbn™ Co is responsible for configuring the NTD to ensure compatibility with your service.

To integrate this setup into your existing network, you simply need to connect it to the NTD using a router or a Layer 2/Layer 3 network switch.

Yes. The installation of the service includes the business Network Termination Device (NTU).

Please note, however, that you will require additional hardware such as routers, firewalls, or other necessary equipment that will need to be provide by you.

All hardware after the NTU will be your responsibility in regard to maintenance and configuration.
